Pandemic and inflation “slowed down” Angola Telecom's restructuring

The chairman of the Board of Directors of Angola Telecom said this Tuesday that the covid-19 and inflation in the country "slowed down the restructuring" of the public telecommunications company, which aims to "improve commercial, operational and financial indicators".

:

Adilson dos Santos, who was speaking at a press conference, said that the company's restructuring process, "which has been long, continues at this moment in a more difficult phase due to the pandemic and inflation", admitting a "challenging scenario".

“The very period in which we live is challenging and, like all companies, not only because of covid-19, but also inflation, have faced difficulties of various kinds and, in some way, even slowed down our restructuring ", said.

The “improvement of commercial, operational and financial indicators” are the cornerstones of Angola Telecom's restructuring.

According to Adilson Santos, his administration "has already managed to overcome" the challenge of the opinion of the auditors in relation to Angola Telecom's accounts, which indicates an improvement in the indicators.

The official also said that the company managed to expand the network of connectivity in the country, “with optical fiber in 16 provinces of the country”, as a result of the “continuous improvement” in the maintenance of infrastructures.

“And it is, in fact, important that we continue the challenge of improving and that our object, which is connectivity, be made”, he stressed.

Looking at the company's path in the first half of 2020, the president of Angola Telecom said that, from a commercial point of view, the actions were initially satisfactory, but covid-19 "stopped the march".

Support for citizens during the confinement period due to the pandemic was also noted by the official, who regretted, however, the two cuts recorded in the optical fiber of the international submarine cable.

"And this also had a very big impact, we had some considerable decrease, so these factors have negatively influenced our production and as you know, until now we have continued to provide retail service from a fixed residential point of view," he noted.

In this period, the company has grown “a lot from the retail point of view, but with a much smaller impact in relation to business customers”, he noted.

Angola Telecom is a company under Angolan law, 100% owned by the State, created on 6 March 1992.
