Carumbo Lagoon

:

Lagoa Carumbo is located in Lunda Norte and is home to 338 species of plants and 195 species of birds seen there - of which 13 are rare and seven are unknown in Angola.

This lagoon can also be known as Lagoa Nakarumbo. It is bathed in the waters of the Luxico River, which runs slowly in this lagoon providing incredible views to those passing through the area.

According to legend, Lagoa Carumbo was created by a lady who would have cursed that area.

One very cold night, an old lady named Karumbo was passing through the area. The old lady asked for shelter, but nobody answered, except a resident of the village. The next day, the old woman advised the villager to leave the place because she had cursed the village and it was going to become a lagoon.

And so the lagoon named Carumbo was born, just like the old woman's name.

The Carumbo Lagoon was once named after the "Seven Natural Wonders of Angola".
