Ministry of Mineral Resources suspends tender for diamond appraisers

The Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas has suspended the tender for hiring rough diamond appraisers due to the constraints caused by the covid-19 pandemic.

:

The procedure will remain suspended as long as the public calamity situation is maintained, taking into account the need to adopt measures that ensure the health and safety conditions of national and international participants, residents and non-residents, adds a statement from the ministry, to which Lusa had access.

The competition had been open on 9 February and ran until the submission of applications which ended on 3 July.

The objective is to hire three independent rough diamond appraisers, who will intervene in the classification, assessment and determination of base sales prices in the national market.

Last year, Angola raised US $ 1.3 billion from the sale of 9.2 million carats of diamonds, the result of the new marketing policy adopted in 2018 by the Government, which abdicated preferential customers in favor of auctions.
