National Assembly approves draft law on municipal symbols

The proposed law on municipal symbols - which aims to establish the rules and procedures for the institution and use of municipal symbols - passed the sieve of the deputies of the National Assembly (AN), and was approved this Wednesday in the specialty.

The proposal consists of three chapters. The three points were approved, each with 17 votes in favour, no votes against and no abstentions.

According to Angop, during the debate in AN on the first chapter, deputies suggested to the Ministry of Territorial Administration and State Reform that a municipal insignia be implemented, called a badge. On this point, Marcy Lopes, Minister of Territory Administration and State Reform, said the use of the emblem will be optional, but the use of the municipal flag will be mandatory.

For Raul Danda, cited by Angop, the proposal should encourage future municipalities to learn local languages and local symbols.

David Mendes considers the loss of intellectual property of the authors of the autarchic symbols should be included in the document.

According to this proposal, the municipalities will have the right to use local symbols, as long as they meet the legal requirements.
