An aid package consisting of masks and test kits, delivered by Vietnam's deputy foreign minister, To Anh Dung, is destined for Angola, Mozambique, South Africa, Algeria and Nigeria, announced Nhân Dân, the communist party's Vietnamese media, on its website.

Nhân Dân highlights that Vietnam and African countries "nourish traditional friendships" and that the Vietnamese Government "has decided to offer part of its resources to support the governments and people of these countries".

According to the publication, the minister pointed out that "the beneficiaries have supported Vietnam during the country's difficulties for reunification in the past and development and integration in the present".

Dung praised the "effective measures" taken by African executives, as well as the "determination of the people" in the fight against covid-19, saying that Vietnam is "ready to share the experience in preventing and fighting pandemics with African nations" and international partners.

According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Health, the country has accounted for 464 cases of infection with the new coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic, of which 369 have already recovered, and has not registered any deaths.

In Africa, there are 18,887 confirmed deaths in almost 892,000 infected in 54 countries, according to the latest pandemic statistics on that continent.
