Covid-19: Angola registers three more deaths and 31 new cases

Angola has recorded three more deaths and 31 new cases of the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours, health authorities announced this Thursday

At a press conference in Luanda, the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda, said there were also 94 recovered from the disease. With these numbers, the country now totals 1109 infected, 51 deaths, 395 recovered and 663 active cases.

The new cases are between 16 and 83 years old and come mostly (28) from Luanda province. The remaining three are isolated cases in Cabinda, Uige and Lunda Norte.

"The good news is the recovery, for the first time, of 94 people in the last 24 hours," a record, according to health authorities, explained the secretary of state.

In Africa, there are 18,884 confirmed dead in nearly 893,000 infected in 54 countries, according to the latest statistics on the pandemic there.

Besides Angola, among the African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Cape Verde leads in number of cases (2418 cases and 23 deaths), followed by Equatorial Guinea (2350 cases and 51 deaths), Guinea-Bissau (1981 cases and 26 deaths), Mozambique (1808 cases and 11 deaths) and Sao Tome and Principe (868 cases and 15 deaths).

Brazil is the Portuguese-speaking country most affected by the pandemic and one of the most affected in the world, accounting for the second number of infected and dead (over 2.5 million cases and 90,134 deaths), after the United States.

The covid-19 pandemic has already caused more than 667,000 deaths and infected more than 17 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a balance sheet drawn up by the French agency AFP.
