Country overcomes barrier of 900 covid-19 infections and Kwanza Sul joins infected provinces

Angola has registered 16 new cases of covid-19, of which one in Kwanza Sul, the third province to be affected by the disease, after Luanda and Kwanza Norte, the health authorities announced.

The Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda, also announced one more death, with Angola already adding 40 deaths due to the disease, being the second African country where portuguese is the official language with more deaths, after Equatorial Guinea, despite being the second with fewer cases.

Of the new cases, 15 were diagnosed in Luanda, aged between 2 and 82, and one in Kwanza Sul, an Angolan woman aged 35.

As for the death, it was a 41-year-old woman who was admitted to the General Hospital of Luanda.

Franco Mufinda recommended avoiding agglomerations, especially in the capital where community movement takes place.

The country now has 932 cases, of which 40 died, 242 were recovered and 650 were active, with 14 in critical condition.

In terms of molecular biology tests, 282 samples were processed out of an accumulated total of 58,605.

As for serology, in the last 24 hours, 91 people were tested, with five reacting, indicating contact with the virus.

In Africa, there are 17,513 confirmed deaths in more than 828,000 infected in 54 countries, according to the latest pandemic statistics on that continent.

Among the African countries that have Portuguese as their official language, Equatorial Guinea leads in number of infections and deaths (2350 cases and 51 deaths), followed by Cape Verde (2258 cases and 22 deaths), Guinea-Bissau (1981 cases and 26 deaths), Mozambique (1616 cases and 11 deaths), Angola (932 infected and 40 deaths) and São Tomé e Príncipe (749 cases and 14 deaths).
