Covid-19: Lubango's ‘New Hotel’ in a sanitary fence. Suspicious guests arrived from Luanda

Since midnight this Thursday, the 'Novo Hotel', in Lubango, has been under sanitary and police fences due to the suspicion that at least 12 people have been staying in the unit who may have violated the sanitary fence in Luanda.

According to a source, the Department of Public Health and Endemic Control, cited by Angop, the measure will have been taken after a complaint.

The hotel was surrounded and, this morning, biological samples from the guests began to be tested for the covid-19.

According to the same source, the fence will remain in place until the results of the laboratory tests are known.

As a result of these events, the Provincial Government of Huíla, the Health Office and the National Police have been meeting since 07:00.

An employee of the hotel - located in the center of Lubango city - expressed to the agency her surprise regarding the siege. Egilda Dias reported that employees were prevented from accessing the hotel, while colleagues who worked the night shift were unable to leave.

He also explained that the hotel is “with a reasonable occupancy rate”, and “curiously” most of the occupants would have arrived from Luanda.

It is recalled that the capital - together with a neighborhood in Cuanza Norte - is under sanitary fence due to being the epicenter of the pandemic in the country, with more than three hundred infected.

The province of Huíla, which so far has not registered positive cases, has had a PCR-RT type laboratory donated by Portugal since Monday. Tests on the covid-19 in the province were expected to start in about 11 days.
