According to data from the Bank of Portugal, Angolans working in Portugal sent 670,000 euros in May this year, compared with 820 million sent in May last year to their country of origin.
The drop in this figure had a direct influence on the total amount that emigrants from Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP) working in Portugal sent to their countries, which rose from 3.15 million in May last year to 2.66 million in May this year.
In total, Portuguese emigrants sent 270.8 million euros, which represents a small decrease of 0.4 per cent compared to the 271.8 million sent in May last year.
Conversely, foreigners working in Portugal sent 34.9 million euros to their home countries in May, a slight drop of 0.4 per cent from the 35.1 million sent in May 2019.
