According to the government official, quoted by Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA), the metro project is part of a broader program that aims to improve urban mobility in the country's capital.
"One of them is the Luanda surface metro, so the program to improve urban mobility in the city of Luanda has already been approved, which includes this project, among others. We are doing everything we can from a technical point of view, with the technical and financial precedents, so that we can lay the first stone and begin construction of the Luanda surface metro by the end of this year," said the head of the Transport Ministry.
"This first line, in addition to the entire infrastructure component, be it track infrastructure, technological issues and also energy, should cost around three billion dollars," added the official, quoted by RNA.
It is worth remembering that, in August last year, it was reported that the capital's metro project would 'get off the drawing board', with construction scheduled to begin in 2025.
