"The British ambassador announced this Friday that British funding will be provided for the construction of a railway line that will connect the cities of Luena (Moxico) and Saurimo (Lunda Sul), on a 260-kilometre route, with the aim of facilitating the movement of people and the flow of produce from the countryside to large markets", said a statement from the government of Lunda Sul, to which VerAngola had access.
However, the diplomat did not provide figures for the funding announced.
"Without giving figures, Bharat Joshi assured that the funding will allow the works to move forward, thus contributing to the sustainable development of the eastern region of the country", the statement said.
On the occasion, the British ambassador stated that they intend to support projects that have a direct impact on the lives of citizens.
"We want to support projects that have a direct impact on the lives of the population and that strengthen connections between the provinces", he pointed out, as quoted in the statement.
At the meeting, Bharat Joshi also expressed his country's "interest in investing in the agriculture and tourism sectors, exploring the natural and economic potential that the province offers."
"Bharat Joshi took the opportunity to praise the efforts of the Angolan government in building National Road 230, a major road that has facilitated the movement of people and goods between the east, the coast and the center of the country," the statement read.
"Lunda Sul has enormous potential. I will make a point of publicizing this reality and encouraging British investment in the province," the ambassador also assured.
