In a presidential order issued on Friday, João Lourenço authorised the opening of simplified contracting for four contracts for this project to interconnect the Special Economic Zone/Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport/Zona Verde/Sequele section.
The order authorises simplified contracting and the signing of technical assistance contracts for the design of the basic project for all specialities of the first phase of the Luanda Light Rail System, valued at 50.4 million dollars (45.6 million euros).
The head of state also authorised expenditure for a contract to supply equipment, technology and implementation, in the same period, of the Luanda Light Rail System for the same areas, totalling 2.48 billion dollars (2.25 billion euros).
According to the document, a third contract refers to the supervision of the first phase of the Luanda Light Rail System on the Special Economic Zone/Dr. António Agostinho Neto International Airport/Zona Verde and Sequele section, with a total value of 37.5 million dollars (33.6 million euros).
The document also includes costs for the coordination and management of the project for the first phase and the same section, worth 15 million dollars (13.4 million euros).
The Luanda Light Rail project includes a double railway track, the construction of a maintenance and operation park, a central station for the maintenance and parking of trains, and also includes the commissioning of a fleet of 24 high-capacity vehicles for public transport, in addition to the supply and implementation of technological services for its operation.
The project, which is expected to cover a length of 60 kilometres, also includes railway signalling and telecommunications, a power supply and traction system for trains and fixed metro installations, as well as a rail traffic control system.
