After winning the 2024 edition, Angola are on the path to retaining their title after Nteka decided the match in the 48th minute on Tuesday in Bloemfontein, the city in South Africa where this tournament, dedicated mainly to the countries of the southern African continent, is being held.
All things considered, Angola won the group with seven points, two more than second-placed Namibia, four more than third-placed Lesotho and six more than fourth-placed Malawi, with only the first team qualifying for the semi-finals, where they will face Madagascar or Eswatini for a place in the final.
In Group A, Mozambique narrowly missed out, in a group in which three teams finished with four points – the host South Africa advanced after the Mozambicans were defeated in their match against Zimbabwe.
After beating South Africa and drawing with Mauritius, two goals from Ngwenya and one from Makunike decided the match, in which Leonel Calção scored for the Mozambicans.
