The Angolan international, who has been with the club for a season and a half, will be tied to the 'Galos' until 2028, expressing his "excitement" about being part of the club's development.

"I feel at home at Gil Vicente. The club has a very interesting project, it's growing, and I want to be a part of it. I'm in the right place to continue developing together," Buatu said in a statement to the club's media.

The Angolan defender also looked ahead to next season, anticipating that the squad "has the quality to have a more relaxed season" than the previous one, in which they finished 13th with 34 points.

"We have the potential to have a good championship. The group's atmosphere is good, and the players arriving are adding to our quality. We're on the right track to show our full potential," he added.

Jonathan Buatu joined Gil Vicente in 2024 from French side Valenciennes, having appeared in 22 matches last season.

The central defender had previously represented Rio Ave and Desportivo das Aves in Portugal, both in the I Liga, and also had spells with Belgian side Standard Liège, Genk, FC Brussels, Waasland-Beveren, Mouscron, Sint-Truiden, Turkish side Eyüpspor, and English side Fulham.
