The president of NERPOR - Business Association of the Portalegre Region, Tiago Braga, explained to the Lusa news agency that this entity, in partnership with Start PME, is one of the "main parties responsible" for bringing the project to the district.
"This is just the first, we already have several [companies] in line to bring them to the region," he added.
Regarding the project that will be developed in Elvas, Tiago Braga explained that it belongs to the Angolan company Rede Camponesa, which is already registered in Portugal.
"In the initial phase, it will be a small company", which will create "10 jobs", he said.
But then he continued, "depending on the growth of the business, and it has everything to grow, it could even double the number of jobs."
According to the president of NERPOR, the Peasant Network is dedicated to the transformation of food products, such as the transformation of bananas and cassava into flour.
"Then, they send the packages in flour and here, in Portugal, the factory will transform it, for example, into biscuits, one of the products it will make and which is in high demand", he explained.
At the moment, the investment is in the design phase and has also been presented to the Elvas Council, said the person responsible for NERPOR.
Tiago Braga also said that the company has already "identified" a building in Elvas to be able to develop its activity and that the project's promoters hope that, "by the end of the year", the factory can begin operating.
