MPLA holds extraordinary congress in December to mark 50 years of independence

The Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) will hold, in December, an extraordinary congress, to take stock of 50 years of independence, announced the secretariat of the Political Bureau.


In the statement issued at the 10th extraordinary meeting of the secretariat of the Political Bureau of the MPLA Central Committee, held under the presidency of the party leader, João Lourenço, it is stated that the date of the 50th anniversary of national independence is approaching, a “ important milestone for the lives of the Angolan people”, the celebrations of which begin on November 11th this year.

In this sense, the Secretariat of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee concluded that an extraordinary party congress was necessary to carry out an “exhaustive assessment” of the 50 years of independence, recommending that the competent bodies convene it, in accordance with the party statutes. , for the month of December.

A party source said that, although the theme that motivated the congress was related to the country's 50 years of independence, other issues could be addressed during the congress, the political organization's highest decision-making body.
