According to a statement from CIPRA, to which VerAngola had access, João Lourenço participated virtually in the meeting. "On the morning of this Friday, 21st, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, participated in a meeting (in virtual format) of heads of State and Government, promoted by the Peace and Security Council of the African Union and dedicated to the security situation in the Republic of Sudan", the note reads.

This initiative, according to the note, was undertaken by Uganda, the country that is presiding over the AU Peace and Security Council this month, and "resulted from the assessment according to which the political-military situation in Sudan has deteriorated to such an extent that it became imperative to devote special attention to the conflict".

Thus, the president of Uganda, Yoweri Musseveni, decided to promote "a dialogue at the highest level" on the path to reaching lasting and viable solutions for the peace process in that country.

"A year ago, the African Union Roadmap for the Resolution of the Conflict in Sudan was adopted, but on the ground, the situation has proven little short of catastrophic, with a large number of civilian casualties and monstrous destruction of infrastructure ", the statement also states.

Remember that it was in April last year that the conflict between the army, headed by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhane, and the Paramilitary Rapid Support Forces of his former deputy, General Mohamed Hamdane Daglo, wrote Angop.
