According to a note from the Presidency of the Republic, to which VerAngola had access, in the telephone call, which took place from London – where the head of state is meeting for the coronation of King Charles III –, João Lourenço expressed the solidarity of Angola towards the people of that country and also lamented the consequences of the conflict.

"The President of the Republic expressed Angola's solidarity with the Sudanese people and lamented the consequences of the conflict, which has already resulted in thousands of human lives lost and the large-scale destruction of infrastructures. There are also thousands of internally displaced persons and refugees", reads the note.

In addition, João Lourenço also defended a ceasefire. According to the communiqué, the head of state "encouraged the disputing parties to advance towards a ceasefire, defending dialogue as the only way to resolve conflicts".

Still in the telephone conversation, the President took the opportunity to welcome "the initiative of President Salva Kiir, of South Sudan, aimed at dialogue between General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and General Mohamed Hamdani Dagalo, who until the outbreak of the conflict assumed the vice-president of the Sovereign Council", adds the statement.

Remember that João Lourenço left the country this Thursday for the United Kingdom, where he arrived that same day, in order to mark his presence at the coronation ceremony of King Charles III.

According to Angop, upon landing in London, the President of the Republic was received with greetings from representatives of the Angolan embassy in the United Kingdom.
