Luanda railway resumes rail traffic to Dondo

The Luanda Railway (CFL) announced this Friday that it will resume, on Saturday, passenger and cargo transport between Luanda and Dondo, which had been interrupted since 2019 due to covid-19.

According to a statement from the CFL, the first passenger train with around 105 people on board, operated by a private entity, will depart at 6:00 am from Bungo station, bound for Dondo station, where it should arrive at 11:00 am.

The composition will consist of a GE-C30 locomotive, three first-class carriages, a lounge bar and a generator car.

The Luanda Railroad link crosses three provinces (Luanda, Cuanza Norte and Malanje) and divides at Zenza do Itombe in a 55-kilometre branch to Dondo, while the line from Luanda continues to Malanje for a total of of 424 kilometres.

Currently, only goods trains circulate to Malanje, while passenger trains essentially run suburban services.
