The announcement was made this Thursday by Luísa Grilo, Minister of Education, on the sidelines of a visit by Esperança da Costa, vice-president of the Republic, to three schools in Luanda, namely school no. classrooms (Bairro Operário); nº 1224 - Njinga Mbande, with 42 classrooms (Maculusso) and nº 1226-Ngola Zinga, in the Rangel district.
Taking into account the requalification procedure, the schools in question will not receive new students in the next school year, indicated the holder of the Education portfolio, who, quoted by Angop, added: "We will only create accommodation conditions for students who are attend classes".
On the occasion, she expressed concern about the conditions found at the Njinga Mbande educational establishment, which has shortcomings in almost everything. About this school, which has 3500 students, Luísa Grilo made it known that the best way to carry out the task of requalification of the infrastructures and accommodation of the students is being examined, writes Angop.
The directors of the Anagola and Nzinga Mbandi schools, Pedro Kossi and Laura Matos, respectively, were also concerned about the conditions in the educational establishments.
According to Pedro Kossi, for 15 years the infrastructure of the school he runs has not been the target of interventions, and for this reason it has several cracks. Cited by Angop, the director of Anagola also spoke of the shortage of cleaning assistants, with the institution currently having only one.
Laura Matos said that no work has been done on Nzinga Mbandi for over 20 years, and it is deteriorating. "There is an urgent need to take care of this school. We have many problems of lack of cleaning assistants, leisure spaces for students, bathrooms, security, among others", she said, quoted by Angop.
Regarding PAT II, the Minister of Education informed that the project includes scholarships to help families. "It is a subsidy, an allowance, to help families, especially the most needy, to solve the problem of transport, the purchase of school materials, in short, a monetary aid that is given to families so that girls, above all, do not give up classes," she said, quoted by Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA).
Regarding the amount, Luísa Grilo said that eight thousand kwanzas are awarded monthly: "Eight thousand kwanzas are given to each student. first cycle of secondary education and be enrolled, attend and benefit from a scholarship".
The holder of the Education portfolio also mentioned whether she envisages holding a new public tender in the sector, noting that she is awaiting authorization from the Ministry of Finance.
"The issue of teachers, we are aware of this, because there are many teachers who went into retirement and there are others who left for different reasons. We are waiting for the Ministry of Finance to authorize us to open a new competition for the admission of new teachers. At the moment, we don't have any, but we are working towards having teachers to fill this void that remains in terms of teachers", she said, quoted by RNA.
