Council of Christian Churches in Angola agrees to ban events in residential areas

The general secretary of the Council of Christian Churches in Angola (CICA) applauded this Tuesday the measure of the provincial government of Luanda that prohibits the holding of events in residential areas due to noise pollution.

Deolinda Dorcas Teca told Lusa that this situation is also of concern to CICA, stressing that they had been calling for a long time to "look this way".

The Provincial Government of Luanda prohibited the holding of shows, religious activities and parties, without authorization, in residential areas and public and open places due to noise complaints.

"Apparently not, there is a certain uneasiness and they are places of greater concentration of people of different characters, of different personalities, so, for us we do not find this measure strange, this has already been part of one of our appeals as a church", she said.

Deolinda Dorca Tecas recommended that teams be created to oversee this measure and that there is also a certain amount of guidance.

"Orientation cannot be coercive, it must be from a pedagogical perspective and I believe that this is really part of the reorganization of the city of Luanda. For us, as a church, she is welcome. We often stay in places where we can't even sleep, it's not possible to talk, because the neighbor has very loud music", she said.

For the reverend, it is also necessary to look into what "type of parties are held".

"Because there are moments when the music can even end a little earlier, these are aspects that can be analyzed later. For example, for a birthday there is no need to go until dawn, happy birthday is sung, the cake is cut, we feed on what was prepared, I think that in three, four hours, it is possible to finish, we will need to look at the criteria of some festive acts", she stressed.

With regard to churches located in residential areas, the secretary general of CICA recognized that there are those "that exaggerate", while others have activities between 6 pm and 10 pm.

"This can be done yes, or from 6 pm to midnight and leave the other side of the night to rest, but it is necessary that we create sensitization or awareness teams and inspection teams and that schedules are established as well. We have to create two or three teams, (...) raise awareness, but at the same time show the positive and negative part of these measures", she expressed.

The GPL mentions, in a statement, that it has received denouncements and complaints from residents due to noise pollution resulting from cultural and recreational events held in residential areas.
