Workers of the Postal Service in Angola on strike “annoyed” by promises from employers

Workers of the National Postal and Telegraph Company of Angola (ENCTA) are on strike this Monday, in Luanda, in protest for a salary increase and implementation of the occupational qualifier, and manifest themselves as “annoyed with the promises” of the entity employer.

Better salary conditions and the implementation of the occupational qualifier at ENCTA pontificate the demands of the approximately 400 workers of the public company, as a union source told Lusa this Monday.

According to the secretary general of the Union of Postal, Telecommunications and Related Workers of Luanda (STCTAL), Lourenço Francisco Afonso, the workers advanced to the strike because they were "annoyed with the promises" of the company's management.

"These are promises that have been made since last January and until today nothing has been achieved, hence this strike, which we call for five days, but automatically renewable if an understanding is not found throughout this week", he stressed.

The head of STCTAL also reported that the union commission met this Monday with the direction of the state company, "but in fact there is still no common denominator".

"And then, we think that the situation is still the same, there were more information that they are working, the process is ongoing, so there is still nothing concrete, there is no forecast of suspension of the strike", assured the unionist.

The strike, resumed this Monday by ENCTA employees, was suspended on June 26, 2022.

The National Company of Posts and Telegraphs of Angola is supervised by the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication.
