Employees of the public postal company announce strike from Monday

Employees of the National Postal and Telegraph Company of Angola (ENCTA) announced a return to the strike, starting next Monday, to claim wage increases and regret "non-compliance" by employers, a union source announced this Friday.

The executive secretariat of the Union of Postal, Telecommunications and Related Workers of Luanda (STCTAL) announces, in a statement sent this Friday to Lusa, the return to the strike, suspended on 26 June 2022, for five days from 5 of June 2023.

According to the union body, the return of the strike, which "can be automatically renewed if the employer does not provide evidence and guarantees that point to a quick solution", was deliberated in a general meeting at the end of last May.

STCTAL points out that in the general meeting, held by the company's board of directors on January 26, 2023, it assured workers that the salary increase situation and the implementation of the occupational qualifier, two demands of the workers, would be effective in March 2023.

"Therefore, practically three months have passed without results. Nothing new happened other than the same and several promises as always", reads the statement signed by Lourenço Francisco Afonso, general secretary of the union.
