Doctors threaten to stop services due to delay in salaries

Doctors threatened this Tuesday to paralyze services, if the Government does not clarify by Thursday the reasons for the delay in the payment of the salary for the month of May, a union source told Lusa.

:

According to the secretary general of the National Union of Angolan Doctors (Sinmea), the Government did not inform the reason for the delay and, therefore, the class "will really have to react".

"In some sectors, in my hospital for example, there will be work abandonment, if by the 15th, the day after tomorrow, the employer does not say anything, we will even paralyze, until they tell us something, because it is not justified" , guaranteed Pedro da Rosa.

The union leader stressed that "some doctors from tertiary hospitals were paid, but the overwhelming majority were not", stressing that the situation in the province of Luanda, the country's capital, "the situation is the same".

"General, provincial, municipal hospitals, nobody received it, so we are really thinking about a stoppage, we have bills to pay and nobody gives us any satisfaction. Nobody says anything or sweats anything either, they told us at the beginning of the month that we would be paid between 15 and 20, that's what they say around there", stressed the doctor.

The union leader added that the situation is causing several constraints, including absenteeism from work, "due to lack of money for a taxi".

"There are colleagues who no longer go to work, they can't afford the taxi. There are people who don't have anything to eat at home, because they had a salary between 25 and 30, it's already the 13th and nothing, they can't go to work ", he explained.

The situation of salary arrears is also being registered in some public media, namely Rádio Nacional de Angola, whose workers are still not receiving their salaries, according to several sources contacted by Lusa.
