Luanda refinery produces energy from hydrogen

The Luanda Refinery has recently achieved an important goal: to produce energy from hydrogen. The information was provided by Sonangol, which said that the refinery was able to successfully carry out tests on the use of hydrogen to produce energy.

"The Luanda Refinery has recently reached an extremely important milestone, with the successful completion of tests on the use of hydrogen for energy production", informs the flagship oil company, in a statement, which VerAngola had access to.

According to the company, along with the recovery of one of the turbines (out of service since 2017), one of the main goals of the project was to take advantage of the excess gas, "rich in hydrogen", generated by the new gasoline production complex.

Thus, adds Sonangol, with the completion of this phase, "which had the first print run on the 8th of June", it will be possible to reduce the burning of gas, thus reducing "the greenhouse effect emissions into the atmosphere, thus saving a considerable amount of heavy naphtha, a highly flammable product, a fact that reinforces Sonangol's commitment to the energy transition and climate protection, at a time when the demand for energy from clean sources is growing", reads still in the statement.
