TAAG privatization expected before 2025, says CEO

The privatization of the national airline TAAG should take place before 2025, indicated the company's executive president, noting that, at the moment, there are only expressions of interest.

Cited by the EFE agency, the executive chairman of TAAG, Eduardo Fairen Soria, said that the Government's idea is to privatize the aviation sector, since, in January 2025, the country will be covered by the "open skies agreement", the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM).

Despite indicating that the privatization of the company should take place before that date, Fairen Soria noted that, so far, there is no formal process, deadline or talks, but only expressions of interest by large companies.

TAAG, which "has to update and compete like any other company", is immersed in a process of strategic change, focused on expanding the network of destinations and greater international presence, he added.

In this sense, the company ordered 14 planes from Boeing to renew the route.

In February, Fairen Sorria had already admitted that the privatization of TAAG should not happen before 2023 or 2024, given the impact of the covid-19 pandemic.
