It's called 'Hackathon of Ideas' and it wants to empower young Angolans. It is an event that aims to finance and monitor intervention projects with social impact developed by young people.

The initiative, which consists of training and promoting youth entrepreneurship in Angola, was conceived by the Policy Experimentation & Evaluation Platform (PEEP), is sponsored by the multinational Deloitte and has the support of the Angola Media Library Network, the United States Embassy of America, the National Petroleum Institute, Miranda Alliance and the Young Network Angola agency, among others.

According to Professor Dana Redford, from the University of California, Berkeley (USA), President and founder of PEEP, "the Hackathon concept originates from the challenges initially organized in 1999 in the USA, and aimed to develop software for code programs open, including to Sun Microsystems, within a very limited time".

A Hackathon is an increasingly popular way to find new solutions to problems, and at the same time showcase the best of teamwork. Young people come together to build, launch and win with their original ideas and the aim is for them to create and develop an opportunity to use their skills to 'hack' - or realize innovative ideas.

At the Hackathon of Ideas Angola 2022, young people will have the opportunity to work as a team to build, launch and win challenges with their original ideas, using their skills, in order to make their solutions winning prizes for the best. In addition to the prize totaling 1,250,000.00 kwanzas, the teams will enjoy specialized technical support.

The event will take place online on the 24th and 25th of June, with challenges aimed at developing sustainable businesses, incorporating technologies and financial solutions and activating education. They are expected to be projects that will value Angola to put the community and people at the center.

"We will have a group of mentors who will support the young people during the two days of the Hackathon. Before that, there will be pre-event training, in thematic areas such as process improvement, marketing, branding, teamwork or just learning about the ideation process and concepts of entrepreneurship", says professor Afonso Zinga, from Universidade Agostinho Neto, who leads the Consultative Council of PEEP in Angola.
