Angola has no vaccines for administering the first dose against covid-19

Angola is, for now, without vaccines against covid-19 to vaccinate new people, but the process is taking place with the administration of the second dose, the Health minister said this Tuesday.

Ampe Rogério:

Sílvia Lutucuta said that at this time the second doses of Pfizer and Sinopharm vaccines are being administered.

According to the minister, there are people to take the second dose of AstraZeneca, but they have to complete the four weeks.

"The Ministry of Health, the interministerial commission, are always careful, after administering the first dose, to reserve the second dose for the defined time", said the minister in statements to public radio.

For those who were called several times to take the second dose and did not present themselves, losing their vacancy, they will have to wait for the group that will complete the four weeks, to administer AstraZeneca, which will take place at the beginning of next month of July, informed Silvia Lutucuta.

"In the first fortnight, we are going to call the people who have taken part in AstraZeneca in recent days to guarantee full immunity", said the minister.

The Health Minister also said that at this time, the first doses are not being administered.

"We are going to conclude these second doses, we are also going to receive a larger supply of vaccines, which follows a plan and specific groups are called", she stressed.

In relation to the Russian vaccine, Sputnik V, the period between doses is up to 90 days, stressed the minister, so it is still within the deadline for the second dose.

"In principle, at the beginning of next month, vaccines will arrive, we do not have a precise date, because we are always given three or four days' notice and we will announce them promptly," said Sílvia Lutucuta.

The head of the Health portfolio urged citizens to remain calm, "that no one will be without their second dose of the vaccine" insofar as it depends on the authorities.

"We are also waiting for us to be awarded the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which is a single dose, we are working on that, but, for now, the four vaccines available are for two doses," she stressed.

Angola has vaccinated since 2 March this year 1,504,710 doses, 949,230 of which from the first dose and 555,480 from the second dose.
