Covid-19: country with five deaths, 173 cases and 228 recoveries in 24 hours

The country recorded 173 new cases of covid-19 in 24 hours, as well as five deaths and 228 recoveries, the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda, announced Wednesday.

Of the new cases, 123 were registered in the province of Luanda, 18 in Huambo, 10 in Zaire, eight in Kwanza Sul, seven in Huila, four in Cabinda and one each in the provinces of Lunda Sul, Bié and Cunene, aged between 1 and 91, with 111 males and 62 females, the secretary of state said in a statement.

According to the health authorities five deaths have been registered, of which three in Luanda and two in Huila, with ages between 13 and 82 years old and being three female and two male.

A total of 228 people were considered recovered from the disease, of which 165 in Luanda, 45 in Huambo, 12 in Benguela and 6 in Huíla, aged between 1 month and 80 years old.

Angola now totals 37,094 cases since the pandemic began, including 847 deaths and 31,003 recovered from the disease, with 5,244 active cases.

Among the active cases, 17 are in critical condition and 28 are in serious condition.

Laboratories processed 1874 samples in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 620,180 samples, with a cumulative positivity rate of 6 percent.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 3,824,885 deaths worldwide, resulting from more than 176.5 million cases of infection, according to an assessment by French news agency AFP.

According to the latest data from the Africa CDC, the continent now totals more than 5.08 million cases of covid-19 since the pandemic began, including 135,650 deaths.

The disease is transmitted by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
