In a statement, the National Fuel Society of Angola, Public Company - Sonangol, said that the launching ceremony would take place on July 9th, with the presentation of the results of the preliminary economic feasibility studies of the processing capacity considered for the construction of the Lobito refinery, in one or several phases, aiming to reach 200,000 barrels of oil/day.
During the ceremony, the requirements and main terms of reference for participation in the public tender, as well as the associated timetable, will also be presented.
Angola, despite being an oil-producing country, has only one refinery and uses fuel imports, with the construction of new refineries in Cabinda, Soyo and Lobito being underway, as well as the modernization and optimization of the Luanda Refinery.
In 2019, the country disbursed US$1.7 billion to import three million metric tons of fuel.
