Benjamim M'Bakassy wins the DSTAngola/Camões Literature Prize 2021

The Angolan writer Benjamim M'Bakassy won the third edition of the DSTAngola/Camões Literature Award, worth 15 thousand euros, with his debut work, "Eutopsy eutopia turned from the eu-verse", announced this Thursday the promoter of the contest.

The award will be delivered on July 9, at Centro Cultural Camões, in Luanda.

"Eutopsis eutopia turned from the I-verse" is the first published work of Benjamim M'Bakassy, an author who in 2016 participated in the Correntes d'Escritas, in Póvoa de Varzim, in the district of Porto, having then published five poems.

The jury of the award, chaired by the philologist Irene Guerra Marques, of the Faculty of Arts at the Agostinho Neto University in Luanda, highlighted "the originality, in the effort and creativity developed for a work that is not common, in which dramaturgy and poetic exercise are crossed, in a literary discourse of great quality.

Besides Irene Guerra Marques, the jury was composed by the journalist and writer Carlos Ferreira 'Cassé', and the professor of the Portuguese Language Department of the Instituto Superior de Ciências da Educação, Manuel Muanza.

Benjamim M'Bakassy, born in Luanda, is a professor of Business Ethics in Angola. Between 2014 and 2020, he signed columns in newspapers in the country, being editor for Angola of the magazine "E3" and columnist in the Portuguese Language Scientific Community Journal "A Pátria", since 2018.

N'Bakassy is a doctoral student in management at the University of Beira Interior, in the Portuguese city of Covilhã, with an academic focus in the area of business ethics as a strategic and leadership source.

The DSIAngola/Camões Award was established in 2019, under the protocol "Empresa Promotora da Língua Portuguesa", between Camões - Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua and the DST Group.

Last year, the winner was Pepetela, for the work "Sua Excelência, de Corpo Presente".
