Isabel dos Santos: "I was denied justice in the courts of Angola and Portugal"

Isabel dos Santos criticised the Angolan justice, saying that it prevented her from defending herself in court with regard to the property seizure process. The businesswoman also stressed that the accusations made against her "have no substance" and that they are based on "false evidence and a series of manufactured e-mails".

"It is disappointing that I am not allowed a court hearing to prove my innocence and establish the truth," he began by shooting the businesswoman in a statement sent to VerAngola.

"I have been denied justice in the courts of Angola and Portugal. This denial of justice comes from the Angolan court which rejected my embargo on the grounds that it had not been filed in time, and decided that I was notified by 'reading the news' in the newspapers. The judge even refused to recognise the obviously false evidence, including a false passport signed by Bruce Lee, which was used to justify the seizure order," indicated the daughter of José Eduardo dos Santos.

The businesswoman also stressed that the charges against her "have no substance and are based on false evidence and a series of manufactured e-mails.

"The Angolan courts have misrepresented the facts, manipulated the judicial process and the Portuguese authorities seem ready and willing to accept these lies without any independent investigation," stresses Isabel dos Santos.

The official note from the businesswoman stresses that the courts refused to receive the embargoes and "incidents of falsehood that her lawyers, within a legal timeframe, presented to the Luanda Provincial Court, alleging that they had been presented after the deadline, since those concerned should have felt that they were being cited in court not because of a notification from the court, as in any democratic judicial system, but merely because they read the news in the press," the statement states.

"The judicial process was manipulated and distorted by Angolan courts that did not comply with Angolan law and did not guarantee the right to defence established in the Constitution," which in the eyes of Isabel dos Santos is nothing more than a "political trial, fuelled by a cycle of lies and falsehoods.

"The Public Prosecutor made use of forged evidence in the seizure process, and in her knowledge of the existence of forged evidence, Judge Henrizilda should have promoted the extraction of an immediate certificate and ordered the criminal proceedings to be initiated for the criminal investigation of Interpol agents who sell information to foreign private individuals, as well as the use of the signed Bruce Lee false passport," the document states, emphasizing that "denial of justice was replicated in Portugal, where the authorities implemented a similar seizure order without analysing any type of evidence sent by Angola.
