Covid-19: Angola registers two new cases and climbs to 140 total infected

Angola has registered two new positive cases of covid-19, totaling 140 infections by the new coronavirus, of which six died and 61 recovered, the Secretary of State for Public Health said this Sunday.

Franco Mufinda, in his assessment of the epidemiological situation of covid-19 in the country, said that the two infections are imported from Russia, with patients, Angolans, aged 21 and 25, already receiving assistance at the Special Economic Zone Treatment Centre in Viana.

The governor stressed that the country has a total of 140 positive cases for the new coronavirus, six deaths, 61 recovered, 73 active cases and 75 cases of local transmission.

The laboratory has a cumulative of 14,641 samples collected to date, 140 positive, 13,757 negative and 743 in processing.

There are 517 people in institutional quarantine throughout the country and 460 suspected cases have been investigated.

The covid-19 pandemic has claimed more than 430,000 lives and infected more than 7.7 million in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP.

In Africa, there are 6244 confirmed dead and more than 232,000 infected in 54 countries, according to the latest pandemic statistics on the continent.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December in Wuhan, a city in central China.

After Europe succeeded China as the centre of the pandemic in February, the American continent now has the most confirmed cases and the most deaths.
