Minister of Health calls for non-discrimination against covid-19 infections

Health Minister Silvia Lutucuta called on Wednesday for non-discrimination against people who have had covid-19, saying that stigmatisation is occurring in some areas.

:

"This cannot happen, we have to maintain respect for all people, we have to respect the rights of all citizens," the minister said at a press conference on the situation of covid-19 in the country.

She stressed that "the 'no' has to be the watchword at this point", reiterating the call for people who have had covid-19 not to be stigmatised.

"We are seeing scenarios that people know that there was a health fence at Futungo, if they know that this person lives at Futungo they are already discriminated, there was a fence at Cassenda, if someone says that they live at Cassenda they are already discriminated. We cannot do that, there is no reason, we are taking the public health and health control measures and also for the treatment of patients and we only discharge them when they are in fact discharged epidemiologically, after the discharge and after three negative tests", he said.

Angola has so far registered 118 positive cases - 28 imported from Portugal and 26 imported from Russia - with five deaths and 41 recovered.
