In a note, the police said that the 44-year-old man died on Tuesday when he was hunting near the Lukunga River, about 100 kilometers from the village of Tomboco.
"When they arrived at the camp, he and another hunter, decided to research the area in a perimeter of about a kilometer," said the note.
According to the statement, quoted by Angop, the two hunters, "along the way, came across a herd of elephants".
"When shooting at one of them, one of the animals revolted against the hunter and shot him dead with the trunk," explained the police note.
The document reports that police and family members of the hunter traveled to the scene of the incident this Wednesday to remove the body.
