Lunch is called “school feeding” and will be managed by municipal administrations

The Minister of Education presented this Monday, in Lubango, a new concept of school meals. From now on the meals provided to students will be called “school food” and will be protected by municipal administrations, reaching all schools of primary education. The priority in supply will go to food products from family farming and meals will be hot and not cold, as it was usual.

The amount intended for the effect will no longer go through the Integrated Local Development and Poverty Development Program, but will come from the State General Budget (OGE), and will be allocated to municipal administrations, exclusively for school feeding.

"It is proven and not just here in our country, that food is a means by which the students' approval and retention rates can be improved at school. So far the lunch was restrictive and did not serve all students, but school feeding expected to be extensive to all schools in primary school," said Luísa Grilo, quoted by Angop.

The holder of the Folder of Education explained that a 'value per student' was approved in the National School Feeding Program, so that the resources are better distributed taking into account the number of students per school, municipality, etc.

As had already been announced, this new school feed also involves local production, discarding imported products and betting on family farming. For this you will have an active role another ministry, that of social action, which will indicate which most lacking families can produce and sell food to the municipal administration, which will then reach them to their schools.

Concern with nutrition will also be present, being so called the Ministry of Health, which will indicate which foods are most beneficial, taking into account its nutritional tables.

The general inspection of state administration will control and ensure that the monetary values available are only applied to this project.

The measure, already published in presidential decree, wants to ensure students' access to food in public schools, promoting food and nutritional security and the development of children.
