The award, which will be awarded starting this year, will cover eight categories: Science, Innovation, Invention, Career, Woman Scientist, Young Scientist, Young Innovator and Young Inventor.
"Natural or legal persons who are dedicated to research, development and transfer of technology, innovation and technology-based entrepreneurship can compete for the annual prize", says a Government statement, to which VerAngola had access.
With this initiative, the Government wants to "stimulate creativity and the production of scientific research and technological innovation work, as well as encourage the participation of young people and women in research and innovation activities", according to the objectives expressed in the regulations of the National Prize for Science, Technology and Innovation – which was established and regulated through Executive Decree No. 116/24, of May 24, of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation.
Natural Sciences, Engineering and Technologies, Medical and Health Sciences, Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities and Arts are among the areas to be awarded.
According to the Government, applications are online. "Applications must be submitted online and can be submitted by individuals, groups or institutions recognized by the National Science and Technology System", the note reads.
Regarding the value of the prize, it will be determined annually, through ministerial order.
"The value of the prize will be determined annually by ministerial order and the financial costs of organizing and awarding the National Science and Innovation Prize are supported by the budget of the Foundation for Scientific and Technological Development, and may also count on the support of patrons, for express declaration of the same, in accordance with the law", states the statement.
