The country's Energy Sector Action Plan 2023-2027 envisages the continued diversification of energy sources in order to incorporate at least 72 percent renewable energy (between solar and hydro sources) by 2027, said the Secretary of State for Energy, Arlindo Bota.

The aforementioned actions aim to achieve an electrification rate of 50 percent, in a total investment of around 12 billion dollars, said the official, stressing that financial institutions and the private sector must play a decisive role.

"The construction projects for photovoltaic solar parks are expected to be completed in the coming years. These plants will contribute to increasing the installed capacity of photovoltaic solar generation", stated Arlindo Bota at the opening of the 2nd edition of the Energy and Environment Forum.

At the meeting, organized by Jornal Expansão, the person responsible recognized that, although the country has observed "noticeable progress" in the availability of electricity, especially from renewable sources of production, the challenges "are still immense".

He also considered that Angola needs to guarantee the expansion of the energy transport network in order to drain and distribute the "surplus [surplus] at the current date", noting that the dispersion of population clusters encourages authorities to resort to solar systems.

To guarantee more electricity to populations spread across the 18 provinces, Arlindo Bota highlighted the approval of two electrification projects in the eastern and southern provinces of the country, which should benefit an additional six million inhabitants in 132 locations.

"These solutions mainly include solar systems with accumulators, the respective distribution networks, as well as individual solar systems, which will undoubtedly shorten the construction time of the infrastructures", he said.

The forum, under the theme "The Future Energy Matrix in Angola", debates, in Luanda, issues linked to the country's distribution capacity.
