The trophy will be among the Angolans from the 21st to the 24th of May and a series of activities are planned to mark the fact.

The Angolan Basketball Federation (FAB) has scheduled several exhibition moments of the Naismith Trophy in Luanda, with a view to providing basketball lovers with a unique opportunity to appreciate this iconic piece up close, says the institution in a statement sent to VerAngola.

Among the activities, the presentation to "members of civil society and distinguished personalities" in a social event to be held at the HCTA hotel and a small 'tour' of the trophy stand out. This will be photographed at the Fortress, Marginal, Slavery Museum and Iron Palace. During the itinerary of photos in different locations, the public can also take pictures with the cup. The public exhibition will be at Belas shopping on Monday, between 9am and 4pm.

Angola's participation in eight editions of the FIBA Basketball World Championship will be highlighted during the events, showing the country's pride and history on the international stage.

The Naismith Trophy is a tribute to James Naismith, the inventor of basketball. Since 1965, FIBA decided to name the trophy in his honor, and the current version, created in 1998, has Naismith's name engraved in Latin script, Arabic, Chinese characters and Egyptian hieroglyphs, symbolizing the international influence of the sport.

The new version of the trophy is approximately 60 cm tall, 13 cm taller than the previous version. It is made almost entirely of gold and features the names of past World Cup champions engraved on the base. The original name of FIBA (Federation Internationale de Basketball Amateur) is engraved on the trophy's rim, highlighting its historical importance.
