At the ceremony, the leader of the parliamentary group of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), Liberty Chiaka, said that Raul Danda, who died on May 8, 2021, due to illness, was "one of the most distinguished and distinguished deputies to the National Assembly, which the history of Angola has recorded in its 30 years of officially democratic parliamentarism".
Liberty Chiaka stressed that the UNITA Deputy Day was instituted in recognition of the deeds, work, legacy and contribution of all deputies from the first to the present legislature.
According to the parliamentary leader, the 8th of May was consecrated the Day of the UNITA Deputy.
"It is a day that will unite everyone, on this date we celebrate, honor, commemorate the contribution of all living and dead deputies", he said.
The leader of the parliamentary group of Angola's second political force stressed that all the deputies who died left the challenge of all those who followed them to continue the work they started.
"This is the message of the 8th of May. We have to continue the work that Raul Danda and others bequeathed to us", said the deputy, stressing that the first major purpose is to honor Raul Danda.
The commemoration also aims to promote the reunion of several generations of deputies from the UNITA parliamentary group and challenge them in the pursuit of excellence.
"There are deputies from the first legislature here, we even have some deputies who were presidents in the first legislature, we have deputies from the second, third and fourth legislatures", he stressed.
The organization decided not to honor the deputies of the present legislature, which "began very recently", and recognized its advisors and assistants, "who have been very committed to helping deputies to perform better".
