"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Angola makes public the government's availability for the evacuation of Angolan citizens in Sudanese territory, taking into account the escalation of the armed conflict in that country", reads a communiqué from MIREX, highlighting the concern with the deteriorating political and security situation in Sudan.

According to MIREX, five nationals who were studying in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, are already heading to the land border between Sudan and Ethiopia, specifically in the town of Gallabat/Metema in the Regional State of Amhara.

Another five are heading to Egypt, in an evacuation process coordinated with the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) of South Africa.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs that the necessary steps are underway so that the Angolan Diplomatic Missions in Cairo and Addis-Ababa proceed with the voluntary evacuation of the referred citizens to Luanda", according to the press release.

The conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Intervention Forces Paramilitary Group (RSF) has intensified since April 15 and has already claimed more than 400 lives, aggravating the humanitarian situation in the region.

Angolan citizens in Sudanese territory can contact the numbers +251 978843835 and +251 965597071 of the Embassy of Angola in Ethiopia.
