Nunes Júnior praises the efforts of Fazenda Marsiris, which produced 4000 tons of rice in half a year

Manuel Nunes Júnior, Minister of State for Economic Coordination praised the efforts of Fazenda Marsiris – located in Luquembo, in Malanje –, which in about half a year produced 4000 tons of rice. Speaking as part of a visit to the agricultural infrastructure, carried out this Tuesday, the minister underlined that, although the farm started activities in October 2022, the fruit of the efforts is in sight.

On the fact that the farm managed to produce 4000 tons of rice in an area of 600 hectares, Nunes Júnior considered that this is a scenario that is in line with the Government's goals "insofar as rice is a product chosen for the Planagrão".

Thus, the minister said it was a "good level in terms of productivity". "It is a good level in terms of productivity, especially when we take into account that the company is expected to reach production of approximately 70,000 tonnes of rice over the next three years," he said, quoted by Jornal de Angola.

On the occasion, Manuel Nunes Júnior encouraged other enterprises to follow the example of the aforementioned farm, since if they have "more farms to produce with the same level of scale, with the same level of productivity", they will be able to "see the objectives of the Planagrão achieved".

"The farm is a good example of what Angola can do, above all because it has invested in knowledge, in know-how, in the ability to carry out important things", said the minister.

Recognizing the national company's partnership with a Chinese counterpart, the Minister of State for Economic Coordination stated that the model being followed should serve as an example, justifying: "Because this is the way to quickly get out of the large imports that we have several products from our basic basket and thus allow lower imports, produce internally, gain in terms of employment and taxes that enter the state coffers", quotes the Jornal de Angola.

The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Victor Fernandes, referred that when they elected the Program of Support to Production, Diversification of Exports and Substitution of Imports (Prodesi), the diversification of the economy and commitment to national production, this was the result they predicted. "When we elected Prodesi, the diversification of our economy and the commitment to national production, this was the result we were looking forward to. This is exactly why the Government created these three very important plans, Planagrão, Planapecuário and Planapescas. aim to boost this type of activity", he said, quoted by Jornal de Angola.

For his part, the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Francisco de Assis, expressed emotion at the fact of seeing young locals driving heavy machinery. In addition, he also left guarantees that his sector will continue to provide the necessary support "so that other companies feel attracted to join the same cause", says a note from the Provincial Government of Malanje, which VerAngola had access to.

While the provincial governor, Marcos Nhunga, "seized the moment to reinforce that Malanje has the potential for a strong participation in Planagrão", adds the statement.

"The company plans to increase its production, over a period of three years, from 600 to 10,000 cultivated hectares, which will allow the harvest of 70,000 tons of rice and increase jobs from 200 to 1,000", reads in the note, which also states that the Marsiris Farm made a donation, this Tuesday, of 50 tons of rice to vulnerable families and victims of the rains.

In terms of investment, Sónia Morais, manager of Fazenda Marsiris – quoted by Jornal de Angola – revealed that around five million dollars had already been invested in the venture.
