Hospital Central do Lubango will have intermediate services for stroke and trauma

Intermediate services for cerebrovascular accidents (CVA) and trauma will be included in the range of services at the Hospital Central do Lubango “Dr. António Agostinho Neto”.

According to Angop, July is the month indicated for the hospital unit to have these services. Thus, the hospital will have two new wards devoted to intermediate care for people who have suffered an acute stroke and traumatic brain injury.

According to Maria Lina Antunes, director general of the unit, this measure aims to reduce the pressure on intensive care, which currently has 17 beds, 100 percent occupied.

"With this room, we are going to reduce the pressure of intensive care, as at the moment the 17 beds are at 100 percent occupancy every day, so it is really necessary to create other intermediate care areas for these patients", said the official, in declarations to Angop.

In this sense, she advanced, they are working on creating conditions for the design of these two new wings, whose action is part of the strategic plan of the hospital unit.

Referring that the acute stroke corresponds to the first cause of death in the hospital, Maria Lina Antunes explained, quoted by Angop, that the measure aims to reduce deaths, starting by giving patients special attention with this bet.

According to the person in charge, the other room will be exclusively for neurosurgery and traumatic brain injury.

On the occasion, he also stressed that physiotherapy is also receiving attention, since it has doubled the services, making the equipment no longer able to respond to demand, with the need for expansion and new equipment to meet the needs arising from road accidents, stroke, among others, refers to Angop.

Cited by Angop, she also referred that oncology is also in the center of attention of the hospital unit, through the preparation of a chemotherapy room.
