Angola needs a billion dollars to implement strategy in the next 27 years

Angola needs 1 billion dollars to implement its Long-Term Strategy over the next 27 years (ELP-Angola 2050), announced the Minister of Economy and Planning, Mário Caetano João.

:

The minister spoke in Luanda, after the presentation of the ELP-Angola 2050, currently in public consultation, to international organisations, development agencies and diplomatic missions.

According to Mário Caetano João, quoted by Angolan news agency Angop, this is the amount that the economy will need to take the leap that the Government intends to make by 2050, which should be mobilized via foreign direct investment, citizens' resources and commercial banking.

The official pointed out human capital (education, health and others), infrastructure (production, transport and distribution of electricity) and diversification as priorities in the new dimension of economic growth in the country and stressed the need to reinforce pre-school education, up to "5 years old".

The minister said that the executive will place more financial instruments on the market to promote agribusiness and highlighted investment in infrastructure as "a driving factor for inclusive economic growth, productivity and social development".

The ELP is the basic tool that presents the strategic options for the country's long-term development and predicts that the non-oil Gross Domestic Product (GDP) will grow 3.3 times by 2050, from 84 billion dollars to 275 billion dollars, while the population will increase from the current 32 million to 70 million inhabitants.

The document also predicts that non-oil per capita GDP will increase 1.2 times, from the current 3.7 thousand to 4.2 thousand dollars, with the support of non-oil exports, which should grow 13 times more, from five billion to 64 billion dollars.

GDP, which currently stands at 122 billion dollars, is expected to reach 286 billion dollars, i.e. 2.4 times more and public debt will see a reduction of 6 percent, from 66 to 60 percent of GDP .

According to projections, in the next 27 years, the life expectancy of Angolans will increase by six years, from 62 to 68 years, while the under-5 mortality rate will reduce from 71 per thousand live births to 19 per thousand live births.

Unemployment is expected to decline by 10 percentage points, from 30 to 20 percent.
