Servita de Fátima happy to return to Angola with a “weapon of peace” after wielding a weapon of war

The servant of Fátima António Mucharreira recalled this Tuesday that he disembarked 50 years ago in Luanda with a weapon of war in his hands and is happy to return with the pilgrim image of Fátima, “a weapon of peace”.

Mucharreira has been in the Angolan capital since Monday accompanying the pilgrim image of Fátima, coming from Portugal, for the jubilee of the 60 years of existence of the Church of Nossa Senhora de Fátima in Luanda and the 75 years of the Angolan Capuchin Friars.

"Here today another dream of mine is being fulfilled, it is the great love I have for Mary our mother, these moments are unforgettable in my life. I already cried a lot today because I saw beautiful things, things that are worth living", said the servant of Fátima, quoted by Emissora Católica de Angola.

Fátima's servant also recalled that he was in Angola six years ago in the company of the pilgrim image, referring, however, that 50 years ago he was in the African country for the first time with a weapon of war.

"Fifty years ago in August I landed at that same airport [Internacional 4 de Fevereiro], precisely at the same time, only this time I had a weapon of war in my hands, and now I bring a weapon of peace, of love, the best there is in the world", said the Portuguese from Torres Vedras.

The pilgrim image of Fátima, which arrived in Luanda on Monday, will remain in the Church of Nossa Senhora de Fátima in Luanda, in the urban district of Rangel, until next Sunday, May 14th.

Prayers, meetings, reflections, praises, eucharistic celebrations, confessions and other Marian manifestations are the ongoing actions in favor of the pilgrim image of Fátima, which returns for the second time to Angola since independence (1975).

António Mucharreira also highlighted the "vibrant faith and endless love" of the Catholic people who venerate Our Lady of Fatima in Luanda.

"It's great, and that's why I'm here again and I hope it's not the last time, because being a servant is spreading the message of Fatima", he said.

"Because that image, which is there, we do not adore it, it through the images is a better way of remembering Mary who is in heaven", he stressed, stressing, at the same time, that he is a volunteer for the love of Fatima.

A procession with the pilgrim image of Our Lady of Fátima is scheduled for Friday in some streets of Luanda.

The Parish Church of Nossa Senhora de Fátima de Luanda was built by the Capuchin Franciscans in 1963.

The church occupies an area measuring 52 meters long, 23 meters wide and 18 meters high. It has two towers, one measuring 41 meters and the other 20 meters high, the latter bearing an image of Our Lady of Fatima in stone.

In Angola, the image of Fátima made the pilgrimage for the last time between the 13th and the 24th of May 2017. Our Lady of Fátima is the patroness of dozens of parishes in Angola.
