Pilgrim image of Nossa Senhora de Fátima has arrived in Luanda

The pilgrim image of Fátima arrived in Luanda this Monday, from Portugal, for the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the Church of Nossa Senhora de Fátima in Luanda and the 75th anniversary of the Capuchin Friars.

The pilgrim image of Nossa Senhora de Fátima has been at the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport since the early hours of this Monday and at 5 pm it will be in the parish of Fátima, where it will remain until next Sunday, 14 May.

According to the program for the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the Church of Nossa Senhora de Fátima in Luanda, dozens of faithful should witness this afternoon the reception of the image, which returns for the second time to Angola after independence.

During the permanence of the pilgrim image of Fátima in Luanda, "there will be prayers, meetings, reflections, praises, eucharistic celebrations, confessions and other Marian manifestations", refers in the program to which Lusa had access.

Friar António Mbuco, spokesman for the Capuchin Friars of Angola, quoted by Emissora Católica de Angola, invited all the faithful to be present at the reception of the image in the square of the Church of Nossa Senhora de Fátima, in the urban district of Rangel.

The priest also noted that a procession with a pilgrim image of Nossa Senhora de Fátima is scheduled for Friday in some streets of Luanda.

The Parish Church of Nossa Senhora de Fátima de Luanda was built by the Capuchin Franciscans in 1963.

The church occupies an area measuring 52 meters long, 23 meters wide and 18 meters high. It has two towers, one measuring 41 meters and the other 20 meters high, the latter bearing an image of Nossa Senhora de Fátima in stone.

In Angola, the image of Fátima was for the last time between 13 and 24 May 2017. Nossa Senhora de Fátima is the patroness of dozens of parishes in Angola.
