Government introduces social pass in public transport by the end of the year

The Government will introduce, by the end of the year, the social pass in public transport. The announcement was made by Transport Minister, Ricardo D’Abreu, who explained that the tariff will remain at 50 kwanzas until the end of the year and that only from then on will they “segment with the different tariffs”.

:

"We will seek to extend this program to the entire country, as this is part of the national integrated ticketing system", said the minister.

The holder of the transport portfolio clarified that "the public transport tariff will remain at the level of 50 kwanzas for the entire population and only from the end of the year" will they "segment with the different tariffs".

With this segmentation, a social tariff will be introduced that will include young people, the elderly, veterans of the country, pregnant women and people with reduced mobility and a normal tariff for other citizens, explained Ricardo D'Abreu, quoted by Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA).

"Social tariff that will cover the young, elderly, veterans of the country, people with reduced mobility and also people in a state of pregnancy and then we will have a more normal tariff for the rest of the citizens who use public transport", he indicated.

Cited by RNA, the official, who was speaking on the sidelines of a visit by the vice-president, Bornito de Sousa, to the Operational Control Center for Transport and Mobility in Luanda, also took the opportunity to mention that the capital has around 650 buses, being able to increase that number to 800 by June or July.

"We already have in Luanda close to 650 buses available for operation. We will go until June/July, reaching close to 800", he said, considering that this is a "very significant" progress since Luanda is "coming out of a scenario of close to 200 buses".
