Government provides funds for CAN selection campaign

The government promised to make more than US$3 million available to the Angolan team, coached by Portuguese coach Pedro Gonçalves, with a view to meeting the costs of the 2023 African Cup of Nations campaign (CAN2023).

The Angolan government's promise came six days after the president of the Angolan Football Federation (FAF), Artur Almeida e Silva, announced the imminent withdrawal of the Angolan team, due to lack of money, in order to cover expenses during the of clearance.

After signing a memorandum between the Angolan Ministry of Youth and Sports and FAF this Monday afternoon, in Luanda, Artur Almeida e Silva assured that the financial amount is sufficient and, therefore, there will be no need to resort to sponsorship. .

The money will be made available in installments, with the process starting in the next few days.

The national director of sports, Nicolau Daniel, said that the conditions were created for Pedro Gonçalves and the national team to dignify Angola in the qualifying phase of the African Cup of Nations, which will be played in Ivory Coast.

In the qualifying phase for CAN2023, which starts in two weeks, the national football team, which is part of Group E, will face the Central African Republic counterpart, on June 1, in Luanda, in a game of the 1st. th journey. Five days later, he plays against Madagascar, in their stronghold, and on the third matchday he faces Ghana.
