Angola and Congo analyze border situation such as land, river and maritime demarcation and delimitation

The Republics of Angola and Congo began this Monday to analyze the border situation between the two countries, including their land, river and maritime demarcation and delimitation.

A statement from the Ministry of the Interior distributed to the press states that the Angolan side is made up of a multisectoral delegation, headed by the head of the Interior Ministry, Eugénio Laborinho, who traveled to the city of Ponta Negra, Republic of Congo.

During the work, until Thursday, the parties will review the state of cooperation between the two countries in the field of defense and security.

"In detail, the parties will analyze the modalities for the guarantee of joint security of the border, proceeding to the consultation and exchange of information between the security agencies of the two countries", says the note.

In February of this year, a memorandum of intent was signed in Luanda on the Protocol on the Fight against Cross-border Crime and Terrorism, a document that will be discussed between the two countries, for the constitution of a mixed and permanent commission for defense and security. .

The working agenda also provides for the analysis of the possibility of negotiating and concluding a cooperation agreement on mutual assistance in customs.

The Angolan delegation includes the Secretary of State for National Defence, José de Lima, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Esmeralda Mendonça, and the deputy director general of the Service and External Intelligence, Mário Dias.

Angola and the Republic of Congo share a common border of 201 kilometers, and fuel smuggling from the country is one of the main concerns recorded in relations between the two States, which is also affected by illegal fishing.
