Marcolino Moco: Angola needs a state model “that recognizes the diversity of peoples”

Former Prime Minister Marcolino Moco said this Friday that Angola needs a state model “that recognizes the diversity of peoples” and not that centralizes power, criticizing the “exclusion that persists” in the country since independence.

"The model of State that we need is one that recognizes our diversity, we have a State that assumes that Angola is a single people from Cabinda to Cunene, a word that I have spoken many times in my youth, but that today I know is completely wrong", said this Friday Marcolino Moco to Lusa.

According to the former governor, Angola is made up of several peoples, with specific diversities, but the State, he stressed, has operated as if this reality did not exist.

"And that's why it errs, centralizes, power is given to a single person who is the President of the Republic", he said, on the sidelines of the opening of the 1st Congress of the Nation "Pensar Angola, por um Projecto Comum de Consenso", which takes place in Luanda.

For Marcolino Moco, one of the promoters of the congress that runs until Saturday, in the capital, the conclave is a gain, especially for the personalities it brings together to think about Angola and seek consensus.

"This (meeting) is also a legacy for the youngest, we transmit here a kind of nonconformity so that they are not satisfied with what has been happening in our country since independence, exclusion, exclusion and exclusion", he stressed.

According to the former secretary general of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), the idea of seeking consensus for the country "is urgent, because this assumption should have taken place in 1974 and 1975".

"A part of Angolans, at that time called settlers, should not have been allowed to leave, because most were white, but it was a big mistake because they were Angolans and they were a thinking mass that should be here with us today and contribute to integration of many problems", he noted.

He recalled the current problem of employment, basic sanitation and the loss of ethical and moral values, considering that "all this was destroyed because of this idea that persists to this day of exclusion".

"Because I was elected, I am that, I command and do, and the congress is not a space for obtaining immediate results, but also for the beginning of a work of pedagogy and relaunch for Angola", he pointed out.

In addition to Marcolino Moco, businessman Francisco Viana, academics and musician Eduardo Paim are the other promoters of this congress, which started this Friday in Viana, one of the nine municipalities in Luanda, and runs until Saturday.

Contributing to a common project in favor of a "more inclusive, solidary and democratic" Angola for a better pre-electoral clarification on the proposals of the political forces competing for the general elections and creating an environment of peace and concord are the objectives of the meeting.

Moco, who has been very critical of the current government and the ruling party, was also "concerned" about the current pre-electoral environment, where there is "a great desire for alternation, but whoever holds power pretends not to know" such pretense.

"Now, if we started by recognizing the truth, what would the ruling party be today? What it should do is build a bridge to the future, in such a way that whether it remains in power or not, there is absolutely no problem", he defended.

"We have to face this problem of the transfer of power in a sport, but due to this diversity, which is not seen naturally, there is the notion that an enemy comes to power", concluded Marcolino Moco.

Angola holds the next general elections, the fifth election in the country's political history, in the second half of August this year.

Academics, religious leaders, civil society actors and religious leaders are also among the guests and speakers of the debates that will address the current state of the nation and the future and the State, economic, macroeconomy and business environment models in Angola.
